Do not confuse “duty” with what other people expect of you; they are utterly different. Duty is a debt you owe to yourself to fulfill obligations you have assumed voluntarily. Paying that debt can entail anything from years of patient work to instant willingness to die. Difficult it may be, but the reward is self-respect.
But there is no reward at all for doing what other people expect of you, and to do so is not merely difficult, but impossible. It is easier to deal with a footpad than it is with the leech who wants “just a few minutes of your time, please — this won’t take long.” Time is your total capital, and the minutes of your life are painfully few. If you allow yourself to fall into the vice of agreeing to such requests, they quickly snowball to the point where these parasites will use up 100 percent of your time — and squawk for more!
So learn to say No — and to be rude about it when necessary.
Otherwise you will not have time to carry out your duty, or to do your own work, and certainly no time for love and happiness. The termites will nibble away your life and leave none of it for you.
I am a fan of Shirt Woot and love many of their products. My latest order came in today and I love it! Combining Doctor Who and Back to the Future on a shirt called “It came Out of Nowhere” is genius. If you want one too they are still available!
I have been exercising with my Wii for a while now. I’m too cheap to join a gym and even if I wasn’t my schedule doesn’t allow the time. On the recommendation of my wife I picked up Gold’s Gym Cardio Workout. She watched this crazy guy on YouTube who reviewed it and lost a bunch of weight. The crazy guy was spot on!
I have to say this “game” really is a workout for me. I’m not the most active guy, in fact I sit at a desk 9 -10 hours a day at work so any cardio wears me out. Playing Gold’s Gym for 45 min really gets a sweat going. Lots and lots of sweat. The game starts with standard boxing punches and moves onto combos and ducking / weaving. The instructor led sessions are fun and pretty well designed. The game is very customizable and has enough options to keep any procrastinator happy
I have played long enough to unlock a few new exercises and new teachers. I’m having a lot of fun and losing weight! Oh and today I learned that I couldn’t jump rope 20 years ago…..and I still can’t!
I give this game 4 out of 5 stars. My only reservation is the crappy soundtrack. The music is very MIDI like and just not my style. Maybe as I go on the music will get better
still, it’s a great game go get it.
Hey everybody! Well I’m back! I am offically over this lingering stomach virus that has been ruining my life. This bug even made me take a week off of work. I made multiple trips to the doctor and even had to give them samples, yeah those kind
all that matters is that after the second round of antibiotics I feel 100%!
Over the last couple of days I have gone out to the park with my wife and kids and today I even got on a housework kick after exercising. I’m pretty tired now but it’s a good tired.
Didn’t really do anything for Mothers Day except clean so I owe my wife
She has a new Blackberry so the gift is covered but we need to go out on a date nite soon. Love ya honey!
Off tomorrow to get a new alternator for my car, oh joy.
I learned a lesson today. You don’t have to spend a lot to get good tea. I am a huge fan of pricy tea and usually avoid the low price brands. Well, today im the dollar store near my home I picked up a box of generic green tea because I was out. So far I have had four tea drinkers other than myself try this mystery tea and all were impressed. It’s really good! 100 bags for a dollar! What a find. Only problem is now I have to back since two of the guys want their own box

The Newest Star Wars Character
Thanks to a blog post by Wil Wheaton I just learned of World Wide D&D day. Wil has been making me dredge up childhood memories lately and I can’t thank him enough for that. The geekdad blog at Wired is also posting about it today and even giving away some manuals if you leave a comment. Today I even feel inspired to play or at least grab an old Dragonlance novel for nostalgia sake
D&D was a huge part of my past, lots and lots of good memories. That one game gave me some life long friends and helped develop a love of Sci-fi and fantasy books. That in turn developed a life long love of reading. I owe a lot to this one simple game and it’s power to spark imagination and creativity.
The trifecta of my childhood was D&D, Star Wars and the Boy Scouts. So far my kids have been exposed to one of the three, Star Wars and they have taken to it like a fish to water. Soon they will be led to the others. I truly hope they enjoy them as much as I did but if not, well at least I tried
Hey there! Well it’s been a week since my last update. So how an I doing? Well so far so good. My weight is stable but I’m not working on that yet. I am sleeping much better and don’t feel nearly as stressed at work. All in all I feel in better health, so what’s next?
Since I was not dumb enough to try and fix everything at once I still have a long way to go to get to GZD 2.0 status. Food is my next deamon to fight. Lay week I started back on Weight Watchers. Boy I forgot how much I love tracking stuff, LOL.
For the last week I have been right on with my points. Well except for the weekend. Weekends are my achiles heel. During the week I eat in my work cafe. Portions are limited and I eat a salad every day. Now at home it’s mostly takeout or pizza joints. I have no will power with them. Well since I am getting serious about WW as step two of my plan this week I will just have to buckle down. Oh well
A week or two into WW I get to start the dreaded exercise in earnest. For now I to some situps, puships and avoid my work elevator……no real plan. I need a plan. On the plus side since it’s getting warmer I can get by without a gym if I try. Ok the down side….. I really hate exercise
Alas, it can’t be avoided any longer since I’m still growing and not in a good way.
I’ll keep the updates coming, wish me luck!
